| You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves. Lay an ambush for the city behind it.
After a painful lesson about the dangers of secret sins in the camp, Joshua and the Israelites repented and “cleaned house.” Once that was done, God spoke to them in concrete terms about how they would do to Ai what they did to Jericho. Defeat was not even a possibility. Sure enough, Israel won a decisive victory over Jericho’s neighboring town of Ai. This time, God allowed the Israelites to take possession of the cattle and any valuable items captured in the conflict. Victory is yours because you heard the Word and put it into practice. Now openly declare to the enemy of your soul, “This is my time and season to take the spoils of war and reap the blessings of victory!” The best part of a victory of war is that once you capture and defeat your enemy, he or it cannot rise up in your life anymore. God’s power has totally defeated the second city of offense, the place of covetousness and trespass. Now it has no power over you or your future! |

PRAYERLord Jesus, I am glad You are directing my steps and fighting on my behalf in this drive to possess Your promises in my life. Whether I face a Jericho, a chief sin that has fortified and strengthened its position in my life, or an Ai, a secondary stronghold rooted in secret and concealed sin, I choose this day to confront them at Your word. This is my season to possess the spoils and celebrate Your faithfulness. |
